Lined Drawstring Bag

I'm going on a quilt retreat this week for a few days. It's not very far, only an hour's drive. We will be sewing, talking, laughing, sewing and eating and repeating until we drop!!!
I decided to make some of my friends a little goody bag.

Jeni Baker's Lined Drawstring Bag pattern is the best! I've blogged about it many times. I made the third largest size, the artist bag, so that it would fit a notebook. I made one for myself too :)

I raided my vintage Lori Holt stash but had to make a trip to JoAnn's Fabric store for more grosgrain ribbon.  It takes way too long to make the fabric drawstrings, just saying...

The fabric options are endless but funny thing...my stash doesn't seem to be diminishing in size! LOL!

What will I be making at my retreat you ask? Amy Smart's Union Jack flag pattern in Ruby Society "Strawberry and Friends" collection.

I'm sure excited about it!  See you next week :)

Lined Drawstring Bags

Welcome to another week :) I've been really busy making some bags.  My favorite part is choosing the fabric.  I taught my daughter and her family (one by one) how to make this lined drawstring bag using the tutorial which you can find here.  We made a trip tot quilt shop where everyone chose 3 fat quarters for their bags, that was a lot of fun!

My son in law Jeremy told me a few weeks ago that he would love to make a whole bunch of bags because he finds them so useful!  I was wondering what I should get him for his birthday, when that conversation came back to mind. I made him a whole collection!😊

I began with the largest bag, the "laundry" bag.  I don't really know what Jeremy will use this bag for but I'm sure he'll find a use. I love the fabric, it's canvas so very practical for the large size.  Sweetwater fabrics had everyone send them their hometown which they printed on the fabric.  I can see so many cities I've visited or lived in.

Next is the "project" bag.  I've made this size once, for my grand daughter.  I included about four dolls and they fit perfectly in the bag!  I found some Def Leppard fabric and my son in law likes rock music so hopefully he'll get a kick out of it.

Next is the artist bag.  I've made this one a few times. It fits an 8"X11" book and a doll.  Who doesn't love John Wayne?  Especially the movie "The Man from Utah", which is where Jeremy is from and currently resides.

This photo shows you the scale of the three largest bags.

My favorite bag which has the free tutorial, the "everything" bag.  I made so many of them and each time is just as exciting as before.  I love seeing the different color combinations, that never gets old.  This one has Monopoly money, how fun!  Jeremy loves board games too, so I had to use this fabric.

BYU, Brigham Young University, Jeremy's alma mater. GO Cougars!

Baby Yoda, I know Jeremy likes Star Wars.

How to iron a button down collared shirt in 12 steps.  I love this fabric!  Years ago, when our youngest son was 13 and earning his Eagle Scout award, his grandfather was visiting for the occasion.  His grandfather was retired military and asked Sean if he knew how to press a shirt.  Sean said yes and his grandfather told him that there needed to be press lines on the sleeves. Sean came downstairs with a perfectly pressed shirt, with seams along the sleeves.  A few days later when I was putting the ironing board away, I saw an internet print out of instructions on how to iron a shirt.  Sean had gone to the internet to make sure he pressed his shirt correctly!  ðŸ˜‚😂😂 So cute!!!

Next is the "snack" size.  I really like this one too.  It's just a little bit smaller than the "everything" bag.

Here's the size comparison.

Lastly, is the "tiny" bag.  I strongly dislike making these bags! I've made almost 300 of them.  One year I made one for every young woman at church who was turning 12.  There were a few treats inside. It was a really cute gift but so meticulous to make!!!

Here's the size comparison between the largest bag and the smallest bag.

I highly recommend making some of the bags.  Take if from me, they're pretty addicting :)

Happy Valentine's Day ❤️

That's a lot of bags!  14 to be exact...15 grandchildren but one is a baby so I didn't have to make her one because she wouldn't know the difference 😂

Here's the tutorial for this darling little bag.

I received photos for the above grandchildren :)

Jacob is 5

Ben is 9

Maisie is 11

I received a wonderful video from the grandchildren above as they opened the box and each saw their bags.  Bridger on the left is 16 and it's always so difficult to think what I'm going to get him.  I thought he would love the Dwight fabric from "The Office" as he dressed up as Dwight one year for Halloween.

These girls live a couple of short blocks away from me, so it was easy to get their photos!

Neo (11) Izzy (6) and Kylie (9)

Each bag holds a small heart box of chocolates, a heart bracelet and a squishy ❤️💕

You can bet that this little cutie will get my holiday gifts when she is old enough to know.

Happy Quilting ❤️

Birthday Bags

I bought a pattern for a lined drawstring bag, which comes in many different sizes.
I can't even tell you how many bags I've made over the years.
I work with Young Women, ages 12-18 years old, in my church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.
We give a little gift to the girls who turn 12 and join the Young Women program.
I make a bag for each one of the girls, and we fill it with an ios lip balm, and some uplifting literature.
I've taken photos of all the bags I've made in a little over 2 years.
The girls are really excited to receive them, 12 is such a sweet age:)
You can find the tutorial here.
The bags I made in these photos, is the smallest size, about 4" X6".

Lined Travel Bag and Christmas pillowcases

post signature
I've started making my grandchildren little travel sized (12" X16")
pillowcases that fit pillows I buy at Joann's, when they come to visit us.
These are the ones I made this year, since they were here for Christmas :)

It was fun choosing the fabric, this one is Charlotte's.
I also bought them the softest little throw blankets I could find!

This one is Bridger's, sort of manly with the bearded gnomes :)

This one is for Kennedy, because she's like me and she likes vintage :)

Last but not least, is Lucy.
I gave her a traditional Santa :)

I bought this lined travel bag from In Color Order.
I made the project bag size, and want to make some more, they're great!

I made this bag to hold Coral, Queen of the Sea.
My little Charlotte loves pandas, so this fabric was perfect!

Thanks for visiting, have a great week!
